West Indies win second ODI to level series against India

In a thrilling encounter at Barbados on Saturday, the West Indies cricket team secured a well-deserved six-wicket victory over India in the second one-day international. This triumph marked their first win against the Asian side in nearly four years, and it successfully leveled the series at 1-1, setting the stage for an exciting decider on Tuesday.

For the second match, India’s star players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were given a rest by the team management. The hosts won the toss and asked India to bat, and the Indian team got off to a promising start with an opening partnership of 90 runs between Ishan Kishan (55) and Shubman Gill (34).

However, things took a turn for the worse as India faced a collapse, stumbling to 113-5. Suryakumar Yadav (24) attempted to stabilize the innings, but the lower order couldn’t hold on, and India was eventually bowled out for 181. The West Indian bowlers, Gudakesh Motie and all-rounder Romario Shepherd, were particularly effective, each claiming three wickets on a pitch that favored the bowlers.

In response, Shardul Thakur shone for India, taking three crucial wickets and putting pressure on the home team. Kyle Mayers provided a brisk start for the West Indies with 36 off 28 deliveries, including two sixes. However, it was the captain, Shai Hope (63 not out), and Keacy Carty (48 not out) who displayed patience and skill, guiding their team to victory by chasing down the target in the 37th over.

Shai Hope, who played a match-winning innings, was deservedly awarded the player of the match title. He expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, emphasizing the need to continue strong in the upcoming match to secure the series win.

The excitement doesn’t end here, as both teams will also engage in a five-match Twenty20 series following the conclusion of the one-day internationals. Cricket fans can look forward to more thrilling clashes between these two competitive sides in the upcoming matches.
